I asked myself many times how I wanted to celebrate my baby’s first birthday. I wanted to make a big party but I was aware she wouldn’t remember anything about it in the future. Finally, I decided that September 20th was a special date because it was her birthday but it was also the celebration of a very expected motherhood. We decided then to make a big celebration. However, I probably didn’t know what I was getting in to. That’s why on this blogspot I want to share the adventure of planning the perfect Minnie Mouse party.
1. A general idea
In the beginning of course, I wanted a beach party. After considering that my daughter puts everything in her mouth and that I would have no peace with the endless possibilities of choking with the shells and stones from the beach, I ended up deciding for a pool party instead. I also considered the theme. I always wished to have a party about my favorite Disney character, and I finally had it: Minnie Mouse.
2. The best friend of the ideas: Pinterest
Looking on Pinterest can be either a very good idea or the whole opposite. There were so many beautiful ideas that it took me a lot to make a balance between which elements were necessary and which ones were a simple whim.
3. Breaking the piggy bank
After accomodating my ideas, I decided to hire some decoration and sweet edible services and to get a garb for my baby. All these though, involved an extra monetary expense that was not in my monthly budget. I managed to get everything thtough different efforts:
a. A piggy bank in which we put $1 coins for a year.
b. Purchasing sweets and other party elements in each visit to the supermarket for a couple of months.
c. Cake and sweets small payments for a couple of months before the special date.
d. Help from family and friends.
4. The special day was comming
I sent invitations to the guests a month before and created a Facebook event so they could confirm. I had everything ready so that with just a little bit of help a few hours before, I could manage to have the perfect Minnie Mouse party for my princess. For a whole week the word PARTY circled around my thoughts and finally the day arrived.
5. The perfect Minnie Mouse party
There is a proverb that says
“A faithful friend is a sure shelter, whoever finds one has found a rare treasure”.
The day of my baby’s first birthday I understood once again the amount of treasures that I have in my life. Friends were my guests but also a great help: they collaborated to set up the decoration, to prepare the food, to entretain the little ones, to take photographs but specially to share and to have a good time. Check out the details of the decorations on my Pinterest board.
6. Let flow and enjoy
There are things that we cam foresee and other that we can not. I was afraid of the possibility that it would rain, specially in a month like September. I was also worried about my baby’s attitude since a lot of people told me ahead that babies usually misbehave or sleep during the activity. No matter how prepared we are, we cannot control certain things. However, if we let things flow, even if tey happen (which luckily didn’t), they will not ruin the moment.
Obviously, that day I was running from one place to the other one most of the time. However, letting the celebration be informal with just a couple of traditional elements, let me enjoy the get together.
In the future…
For a couple of days I thought about the whole preparation process that led me to create the perfect Minnie Mouse Party. I didn’t think for a few days I would do it again next year but of course, and like many other things in life, chaos brings it’s own excitment. And that sometimes is worth repeating.
What do you think about this party? Did I go too far? Let me know in the comments!
